Lately I have been reading Brilliants, selected from works of Charles Spurgeon. I downloaded for FREE on my nook. Most of my books on Spurgeon and others like Andrew Murray I have downloaded for free I'm guessing because they are so old. Either way, I wanted to share some of the profound things this man has to say and what makes them so profound, to me, isn't necessarily that I haven't heard it before but rather what is said is said with such eloquence and clarity.
Consider his words:
It takes something to make a mountain sing: and yet the prophet summons quite a choir of them. Lebanon, and Sirion, and the high hills of Bashan and Moab, he would set them all singing because of Jehovah's grace to His own Zion.
May we not also make mountains of difficulty, and trial, and mystery, and labor become occasions for praise unto our God? Break forth into singing, O mountains!
I love the picture of making the mountains (trials) in our life sing praise to God. James 1:2 says count it all joy when you have trials. As christians we need to understand that trials build character and produces good fruit within us. I found something worth noting on Pinterest:
The bible also says in James 1:3-4 that trials work patience and to let patience have her perfect work that you may be PERFECT and entire, wanting nothing.
So, the Spurgeon thought for the day is don't let your trials overcome you but remember that God's purpose is not to drown you but to cleanse you and make you perfect and entire. Make your mountains burst forth in singing praise unto God, thanking him for loving you and taking time to make you a better person.

"It would be well to know much, but better to love much. It would be delightful to have abundance of skill to serve God, but better still to have abundance of faith to trust in the Lord for skill and everything." -Spurgeon
I love this quote. I consider myself to be decent at a lot of things but not really good at anything. I have no special talent or skill. My husband is really smart and business savvy. My little brother is academically superior. My father can sing and play multiple instruments. Me? I can do nothing in particular. BUT NONE OF THAT MATTERS!
God doesn't use those who are equipped, He equips those He uses! Faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains!
I find that in God I find purpose and value. In this world there will always be someone better, smarter, nicer, prettier, more talented, more of whatever you wish you could be. Don't look out, look up.
